By now most communities have freecycle. It is a local online group that exists to keep stuff out of landfills. Sometimes junk stuff sometimes great stuff. each group is an extension of the freecycle.org group, but each local group runs according to local leadership.

- join up
- get approved
- start freecycling!
You can give away things or request things. Usually asking for big ticket items is frowned upon but sometimes they are offered. Some groups will let the givers give away live animals, mostly kittens, but I have seen hamsters, snakes, fish and dogs, or and hermit crabs. The most common items given are household items and clothing. We have requested tires and gotten them. the only thing to watch for it to check how far away the item is located. traveling 20 miles for a $1 item doesn’t make sense even if it is free unless it cannot be found elsewhere.
