save money making your clothes last longer

November 15th, 2008 · No Comments · 101 ways

I find it a challenge to find ways to save money and spend less on things like utilities. The electric bill is an especially fun challenge.  Anything with a heating element is a huge energy sucker. So those are the first I target. Of course my family does not get nearly as excited as I do about saving energy so I am always trying to prove my point. During the summer months it is easy to say “no” to your dryer, that is what clothes lines are for. But what about dreary cloudy or rainy days in fall or winter? Well those are usually the days you have some sort of heat going in the house. For us it is a woodstove. So what I do it take clothes out of the washer at night before bed and hang them on hangers and hang them in the doorway. for the small items I put wooden clothes pins on a wire hanger and pin the socks and underclothing just like on a clothesline. By morning things are dry or at least mostly dry. If they need any dryer time at all it is usually less than 10 minutes.  Your clothes will last longer too.
